Discipleship is more than attending church or memorizing scripture—it’s about transformation. At Pursuit Worship, our mission is clear: Pursuing God and Making Disciples. But how often do we get caught up in the routine of “doing church” instead of the life-changing work of being the church?
True discipleship requires commitment and a hunger to learn. It’s about saying “yes” to Jesus and living out that “yes” every day.
Commitment: Giving Up to Follow
Jesus said in Matthew 16:24-26, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”
Discipleship demands sacrifice. When Jesus called Peter and Andrew, they left their nets immediately. Elisha burned his plow and left his livelihood behind. These weren’t symbolic gestures—they were acts of total surrender.
Ask yourself: What do I need to let go of to truly follow Jesus? Is it comfort, fear, or distractions? True discipleship begins with letting go of the old to embrace the new life Christ offers.
Learning: Sitting at the Master’s Feet
Discipleship isn’t just about commitment—it’s about learning. In Luke 10:38-42, we see Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet, soaking in His words, while Martha was distracted by tasks. Jesus gently reminds Martha that Mary chose the better thing—being present with Him.
True discipleship requires intentional practices: reading scripture, praying, and listening to God in quiet surrender. As 1 Peter 2:21 says, “For God called you to do good... He is your example, and you must follow in His steps.”
But here’s the truth: A Pastor can preach and preach, but if you don’t act, nothing will change. Discipleship is about transformation through action. Are you ready to take that step?
Discipleship starts with commitment and grows through learning. Reflect on this: Am I willing to let go of what’s holding me back to follow Jesus fully?
This Tuesday at 7 PM, we’re starting a weekly gathering to explore what it means to live as disciples. Join us—not just to attend, but to grow together in Him.
