Heart Matters: The Root of Sexual Brokenness

In today's world, where celebrities often dictate trends and moral compasses seem to sway with the latest headlines, it's easy to become confused about sexuality. The Grammy Awards, with their provocative displays like Kanye and Bianca, only add to this confusion. But to truly understand the chaos, we need to look inward—into our hearts.

The Heart: Ground Zero for Sexual Brokenness

Sin isn't just about actions; it's a condition of the heart. Jesus emphasized this in Mark 7:20-23, where He explained that what defiles us comes from within. Our hearts, when left unchecked, can lead us down paths of temptation and sin. This progression—heart, mind, actions—is something we've all experienced. We see something, dwell on it, and eventually act on it, often leading to regret.

The story of Adam and Eve illustrates this perfectly. Trust was broken, leading to shame and blame. It's a cycle we see repeated in our lives. Sin starts in the heart, grows in the mind, and manifests in actions.

Trust Issues: The Core of Sexual Brokenness

God designed us for intimate relationships, built on trust. Genesis describes the unity between man and woman as one without shame. Yet, sexual sin breaks this trust, leading to fractured relationships. Our society often bases morality on cultural norms, which are ever-changing and unreliable. But true morality comes from God, the unchanging source of truth.

The influence of social media and entertainment can distort our views, but we must seek God's kingdom first, as Matthew 6:33 advises. Our hearts are deceitful, as Jeremiah 17:9-10 warns, and without God's guidance, we falter.

Heart Transformation: The Only Real Solution

The story of David and Bathsheba is a powerful reminder of the need for heart transformation. As David lusts over seeing Bethsheba, and impregnates her, and then has her husband killed, his sin led to guilt and despair, but his plea for a clean heart in Psalm 51 shows us the path to restoration. Sexual sin leaves us empty, but God offers healing and renewal.

Our world is far from God's original plan for purity and relationships. We've twisted sexuality to serve selfish desires, but true fulfillment comes from knowing God. As we pursue Him, we align our understanding of sexuality with His design.

Conclusion

In a world that constantly redefines sexuality, we need an unchanging foundation. The solution isn't just changing our behavior—it's allowing God to transform our hearts. This week, let's focus on seeking His kingdom in every area of our lives, including our sexuality.

I challenge you to reflect on where you're getting your understanding of sexuality. Is it from our shifting culture or from God's unchanging truth? Let's commit to pursuing God and His kingdom first, trusting that He will guide us in love and integrity.
